Can ResQVision use existing CCTV cameras? | ResQVision

Assess your existing cameras before adding new hardware

Assess an existing fixed, PTZ or aerial camera for ResQVision video analytics. Understand stream access, target detail, conditions and the first suitability assessment.

Discuss an evaluation

Start with the cameras you have. ResQVision uses video from fixed, PTZ and remote cameras, as well as drone and aircraft cameras. A camera is suitable when its video provides the access, detail and coverage needed for the intended task.

The initial assessment looks at the stream and the actual scene together. A brand name or high resolution alone does not establish that the event is visible.

Five questions to answer first

  • What area and event should the camera observe?
  • How much detail does the person or object occupy at the relevant distance?
  • Which operating hours and conditions matter?
  • How can authorised video be provided or accessed?
  • Who needs the result and what decision will they make?

You can contact us before all these details are available. The assessment helps establish what to check next.

Stream access and reliability

Provide the camera make and model, resolution, frame rate, codec and available stream or video-management-system interface. We assess recorded footage first where that is the practical starting point.

For a live connection, confirm the proposed access method, including RTSP, ONVIF or the relevant customer interface. Camera model and connection are checked for the proposed setup. Credentials are handled through an agreed authorised process.

Image and scene suitability

A useful view shows the intended area and enough detail on the subject. Glare, low light, obstructions, waves and compression can remove information even from high-resolution video.

A suitable starting view: a stable camera shows the platform edge and adjacent water, with a person visible at the event location.

A view needing adjustment: a wide panorama covers the whole coast, but the person is too small or hidden at the point of interest. A moved PTZ view or moving aerial camera is assessed as its own input.

What the assessment should return

The written summary records the camera and view assessed, the task, input suitability, observed conditions and any gaps. It explains whether to proceed, change the view or gather more representative footage.

If another camera or configuration is recommended, the reason should be explicit: missing coverage, insufficient detail, unstable access or a condition that needs further assessment.

Start with sample footage

Describe the site and task first. We then agree the camera information and authorised sample footage needed for the assessment.

Include ordinary activity and difficult conditions alongside an event of interest. The free initial offer covers one view and up to 30 minutes of footage.
